Rebuilding Soil, Rebuilding Lives: Why Agroecology Matters in Liberia

In Kakata District, farmers once watched their maize fields yield less each season. Through our intervention, they began integrating legume cover crops and compost made from local wastes. Over just one year, average yields increased by 30%, and input costs fell by 20%.
But it’s not only about numbers—women farmers have reported stronger, more nutritious harvests, and children are visibly healthier. We are now scaling these practices to 10 new communities, training local “soil champions” to teach their peers.
